Gucci Rings: Introduction
Alessandro Michele, no stranger to adorning himself in jewellery, was appointed creative director at Gucci in 2015. He debuted its first high jewellery collection in 2019, drawing on his trademark maximalist aesthetic. Around 200 pieces were released, positioning the brand alongside glittering heavyweights such as Cartier, Chanel, and Dior. Reference points included the Victorian and Georgian eras, with contrasts in coloured stones chosen by him. On Place Vendome, there is now a standalone Gucci jewellery store.
Hortus Deliciarum, Latin for “garden of delights,” was presented in 2021, starring Jodie Turner-Smith in its campaign and evoking the glamour of Hollywood. The collection includes motifs that are personal to Michele as well as those that delve into the history of the house’s iconography. Over 130 unique pieces, divided into four chapters, feature magical beasts, totemic symbols, flowers, and nature. It is a fusion of Italian craftsmanship and Gucci’s poetic nature, maximalist but with great attention to detail.
